With the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League season well underway, and much to the delight of its junior players, Janet Kettlewell attended the seventh U7s competition at Spofforth Cricket Club recently to present a Kettlewell Fuels plaque to each team in attendance.
When having their photo taken, these five junior superstars exclaimed – we are going to be famous!
The competition involved 11 clubs from the Kettlewell Fuels Nidderdale Junior Cricket League including Pannal, Ouseburn and Ouseburn Girls, Spofforth, Beckwithshaw, Studley Royal, Harrogate A and B teams, Knaresborough Forest Blue and Red and Follifoot.
The teams played a series of matches to determine the semi-finalists with the winners of this round, Harrogate B and Pannal, playing each other in the grand final. The team that clinched it, in the end, was Harrogate with a final score of Harrogate B 286 v 190 for Pannal. Harrogate has now won the shield for two consecutive years.
Mick Dawson Secretary of the Kettlewell Fuels Nidderdale Junior Cricket League commented on the success of the day, he said: “The weather was great and it was a fantastic day with at least 88, six- and seven-year-old boys and girls, getting their first taste of competitive cricket. Well done to all the teams for taking part.”
During the tournament, Janet presented a Kettlewell Fuels Nidderdale Junior Cricket League plaque, marking the company’s sponsorship for the season and a keepsake for the walls of each team’s clubhouse.
She said: “Being here today and seeing these budding young cricketers in action is the exact reason for us sponsoring the Nidderdale Junior Cricket League. Creating a buzz around the junior game is what it's all about. Who knows, the future Joe Roots or Heather Knights may have been taking part."
“As North Yorkshire’s trusted independent heating and fuel oil supplier, we are committed to supporting the local community in which we operate. As avid cricket supporters, the development of grassroots cricket provides the perfect sponsorship match for us.
“The fact that these youngsters get to join the Junior League clubs and play in competitions like this helps them not only to develop their skills in an age and stage appropriate environment but most importantly to nurture that passion for this great game."
